With a sound most often compared to Dwight Yoakam, Jason and the Scorchers, The Cramps and Jay Hawkins, The Hick’ry Hawkins Band unites fans of Honky Tonk, Country and Punk Rock, delivering a dynamic, highly-acclaimed catalog of both humorous and heart-wrenching songs with a Southern draw that consistently packs the crowds into venues across the Carolinas. Their distinctive, hip-shaking Rockabilly sound combines a deeply-rooted Country tradition with a hard-edged Punk mentality, explaining why lead singer Hick’ry Hawkins was named “the David Lee Roth of Country music” by the Knoxville Sentinel. Singing songs about hard times, whiskey and women; reflecting on winning and losing at the game of love; and respecting the strong influence of great Country icons like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Steve Earle; veteran musician Hick’ry Hawkins has naturally hollered, strummed and crooned his way to the top of today’s Honky Tonk music circuit.

Named for the sweeping ridgeline that runs from Swannanoa to Black Mountain in Western North Carolina, High Windy is one of the area’s fastest-rising groups. High Windy offers an original journey based in tradition, all the while breaking new ground in the genre.
The group draws from a combination of contemporary and traditional bluegrass styles while adding old-time themes and an original approach. In an area where great roots music is the norm, High Windy rises to the top, merging sophisticated arrangements with a style that is all their own. With over a dozen collective awards for their musicianship, High Windy are also selected members of the North Carolina Touring Artists Directory and the NC Music Heritage Directory. High Windy has shared the stage with nationally-recognized acts such as Mountain Heart, the Lonesome River Band, Special Consensus, Valerie Smith and Liberty Pike, Open Road and Hayseed Dixie.

Rockabilly, Neo-Rockabilly, Hillbilly, Jump Blues, Swing, Surf, blah, blah, blah ... Hell, I guess labels are a necessary evil on some level, but still ... All we really know is that we like our rock-n-roll from an era when it was still pink and raw. A couple of guys (or gals) banging out basic rhythms, playing their underpowered amps louder than they were designed to go, smackin' their instruments hard to get more, and straining their voices to be heard in a world that was desperately trying to hold it all back.
The Straight 8s have become one of the most respected purveyors of modern Rockabilly (with elements of Swing, Surf, and other precious debris), earning not only the acknowledgement of respected scenesters and the enthusiastic approval of neophytes, but also the begrudging appreciation of those grimacing loathers of all things 50's. "What's their secret?" you ask. It's their pure love of this music that gives it honesty, allowing retro elements to reconfigure into bright new constellations.
